NCPD Reports Second Arrest Made in Connection with Fatal Hempstead Shooting

Hempstead, NY - February 22, 2019 - The Homicide Squad has made a second arrest in connection with a shooting that occurred on Monday, February 18, 2019 at 2:47 a.m. in Hempstead.
 
According to detectives, police responded to a call for two males that had been shot in front of 100 Terrace Avenue. Both victims were transported to area hospitals with serious injuries.
 
One victim from the above listed incident succumbed to his injuries on Tuesday, February 19 and has been identified as Matthew Gilreath, 28, of Hempstead.
 
The Homicide Squad reports a second arrest was made on Thursday, February 21 in connection with the above incident. Raphael Carter, 31, of Hempstead is charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon 3rd Degree and Hindering Prosecution 1st Degree. Carter will be arraigned in First District Court in Hempstead on Thursday, February 21, 2019.
 
James Wilson, 35, of Brooklyn, was previously arrested on Tuesday, February 19 for the above Homicide and was charged with Murder 2nd Degree. He will be arraigned when medically cleared.

A criminal charge is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
