Merrick Man in Custody After Running Over Victims With Vehicle After Fistfight, NCPD Says

Officials: Jonathan Bencosme, 28, allegedly knocked a man out in a Farmingdale parking lot, then drove into both him and another victim with his car, causing major injuries to both.

Farmingdale, NY - February 22, 2018 - The Second Squad reports the arrest of a Merrick man for Assault that occurred in Farmingdale on Sunday, February 18, 2018 at 3:15 am.
 
According to detectives, defendant Jonathan Bencosme, 28, did have a verbal confrontation with a small group of men that included a 34 year old male victim and a 27 year old male victim while in the rear parking lot of 333 Main Street. The argument escalated at which time defendant Bencosme used his closed fist and struck the 34 year old victim in the face causing him to fall to the floor while unconscious. 
 
Defendant Jonathan Becosme then entered into the driver’s seat of a nearby 2015 Ford. He reversed it and began accelerating it toward the victim lying on the ground unconscious and a small crowd of about ten people that included a 27 year old male victim who was rendering aid. The defendant did strike the 27 year old victim on the left side of his body causing him to be thrown several feet. The unconscious male victim was run over by both the front / rear passenger tires of the defendant’s vehicle. The defendant then drove away at a high rate of speed onto Rose Street. 
 
The 34 year old unconscious victim suffered a cranial hemorrhage, skull fracture, and both arms broken requiring surgery. He was transported to a local hospital for treatment. The 27 year old victim suffered pain to his shoulders, hips and both knees. He was transported to a local hospital by ambulance for treatment.
 
On February 20, 2018 defendant Bencosme did surrender to Second Squad detectives and was placed into police custody. He was charged with Assault 1st Degree, Assault 2nd Degree, Criminal Possession of a Weapon 4th Degree, and Reckless Endangerment 1st Degree. He was arraigned in First District Court in Hempstead on Wednesday, February 21, 2018.
 
A criminal charge is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
