Massapequa, NY - February 19, 2019 - The Nassau County Police Department reports the arrest of an Amityville man for Driving While Intoxicated/Leandra’s law that occurred on Sunday, February 17, 2019 at 7:50 p.m. in Massapequa.
 
According to police, officers while on routine patrol observed Shem Mccoy, 43, operating a gray 2002 Toyota northbound on Countyline Road. The officers observed multiple Vehicle and Traffic Law violations and initiated a car stop. During the investigation it was discovered that the defendant had glassy bloodshot eyes, slurred speech, and a strong odor of alcohol on his breath. The defendant was placed under arrest without incident. The defendant’s 10 year old son and 7 year old daughter were both passengers in the vehicle at the time of arrest. The children were brought to their home and left in the custody of a family member.
 
The defendant Shem Mccoy is charged with two (2) counts of Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated (Child under 16-Leandra’s Law), two (2) counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Child, two (2) counts of Driving While Intoxicated and multiple VTL infractions. He will be arraigned on Monday, February 18, 2019 at First district Court, 99 Main Street in Hempstead.
 
A criminal charge is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
