Elmont Woman Arrested in Connection with Fatal Drunk Driving Accident, Police Say

Elmont, NY - February 18, 2019 - The Homicide Squad reports the arrest of an Elmont woman involved in a Fatal Vehicular Accident that occurred on Sunday, February 17, 2019 at 3:10 am in Elmont.
 
According to detectives, A 64 year old male operating a 2003 Chevrolet was traveling west on B street and attempted to turn southbound onto Meacham avenue at which time he was struck by the defendant, Julie Debrosse, 30, of Elmont. She was operating a 2017 Honda, that was traveling north on Meacham Avenue. The defendant suffered internal bleeding and was transported in a Nassau County Police Ambulance to a nearby hospital for treatment. 
 
An investigation revealed that the defendant, Debrosse, was operating her vehicle under the influence of alcohol. She was placed into Police custody. The male victim suffered body trauma and was transported to a local area hospital for his injuries. The victim was pronounced deceased by hospital staff. Both vehicles were impounded for a brake and safety test.
 
The victim’s identification is being withheld pending family notification.
 
Defendant, Julie Debrosse, is charged with Vehicular Manslaughter 2nd Degree and Driving While Intoxicated. She will be arraigned when medically practical.
 
A criminal charge is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
