Long Island-Based 1800Flowers Slammed on Social Media Flooded Over Holiday Delivery Issues

Written by Lyndsay McCabe  |  18. February 2014

Hundreds of customers are still fuming after Long-Island based flower delivery service, 1-800-Flowers, delivered Valentine’s Day bouquets late, or not at all.

As a result of the severe winter weather conditions that surrounded Valentine’s Day, orders across the country from Carle Place-based company were delayed, or somehow lost in transit, as customers have posted on social media that their orders never arrived. Many also posted pictures of their less than satisfactory deliveries, including wilted and damaged flowers.

On the 1-800-Flowers website, the company boasts a 100% Smile Guarantee, stating, “If you or the person who received your gift calls us with any sort of issue, it's a big deal to us. All of us. And we'll jump to make it right -- no matter what, no questions asked. We're happy when you're smiling.”

Still, many customers are not smiling.  On Valentine’s Day, the company tweeted photos of employees handing out free flowers to travelers at an airport, prompting @TheButcher to post “Too bad you couldn't surprise my wife with the flowers I paid for.”

On February 15, another Twitter user, Steve McMaster, posted a photo of the flowers he received, and a slew of responses followed.

“I wish I had the same experience. tweeted them, still haven't heard back,” said @jlebedoff.

“Good for you. Apparently they cannot deliver to NC from VA on time. Stick to a local florist. I know I will,” tweeted @endlessdream13.

Upset customers also took to Facebook to let the company know of their issues with receiving their flowers.  Glen Knox posted on the company’s page, “I tried emailing, and received a reply that I could not make a change or cancel. Then tried calling, and no option allowed me to speak to someone. So I complained on twitter, and someone asked for my confirmation order – no follow-up.”

On the 15th, the flower company posted an apology on their Facebook page:

“At 1800Flowers, we are fully committed to our 100% Smile Guarantee. Our customer service center is open 24x7 and our caring team is working hard to resolve every concern, and won't stop until we do. We appreciate your patience and your trust in us to deliver your smile. Due to the weather issues we experienced, wait times are longer than we would like. If you contact us to check on your order or have a question, we promise to respond as soon as possible.”

Despite this apology, the customer complaints are still continuing to pour in from all over the country.

Those who had an issue with their delivery or still have not received their flowers are encouraged to contact 1-800-Flowers at (516) 237-6000, or to message them directly through their Facebook Page.

One angry Tweeter even posted a comparison of the bouquet he ordered, as to what he got:

A search of #1800Flowers on Twitter reveals that this case is not an isolated one.
