Stunning Lady Belle is This Week's Adorable Adoptable!

Written by Allison Matos  |  17. February 2017

LI's Adorable Adoptables is a weekly column by Allison Matos, a lifelong Long Island resident who has been advocating animal adoption since 2012. Allison's weekly posts highlight local animals in need of adoption, and cover general animal welfare topics as well.

Lady Belle is an adorable 3 year old gal who arrived at the Town of Hempstead Animal Shelter in May 2016. Her owner could no longer care for her due to financial reasons. Lady Belle had recently had a litter of puppies too. Lady Belle had lived in her home since she was a puppy, so as you can imagine, Lady Belle was absolutely terrified when she first came into the shelter. Thankfully, a few staff members got to know her, spent time with her, gave her the opportunity to open up, and just WOW!

First off, Lady Belle is 100% housebroken. Lady Belle also knows a ton of commands, most impressive is: "go get your leash" and she will go find her leash wherever it may be, put it in her mouth and bring it to you. Lady Belle is affectionate, sweet, and really fun to hang out with. Lady Belle loves to go for walks and play in the yard. In a shelter with over 100 pit bull type dogs, you could imagine how excited we were when one of our most dedicated dog walking volunteers decided to open up her home to Lady Belle as a foster, to get her out of the shelter, and give her a nice place to stay until her forever home is found.

Very sadly, Lady Belle's foster mom got very sick unexpectedly and needed to return Lady Belle to the shelter. Lady Belle was living in her foster home for a few months, but adjusted quickly, and was happily living with another dog. She was a great house guest.  Lady Belle deserves her own forever home, and she wants it now! Lady Belle really likes other dogs, she used to live with young kids, she's house trained, she's smart, she's gorgeous, and she will love you unconditionally.
