Pedestrian Killed; Driver Arrested for Driving with 30 License Suspensions

Copiague, NY - February 16, 2017 - Suffolk County Police today arrested a man for driving with multiple license suspensions after a motor vehicle crash that killed a pedestrian in Copiague tonight.

Richard Turner was driving a 2003 Lexus RX 300 eastbound on Sunrise Highway near Bayview Avenue when he struck a pedestrian at approximately 6:30 p.m. The pedestrian, Fausto Rodriguez, 38, of Copiague, was transported by Copiague Rescue to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip where he was pronounced dead.

Investigation revealed Turner had 30 license suspensions. First Squad detectives charged Turner with Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle 1st Degree, a felony.

Turner, 36 of Massapequa, will be held overnight at First District Court in Central Islip on February 17. The investigation is continuing.  

A criminal charge is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
