West Babylon Mother Arrested For Driving Drunk with Daughters in the Car After Brentwood Crash

Brentwood, NY - February 15th, 2016 - Suffolk County Police have arrested a West Babylon woman for driving while intoxicated after being involved in a motor vehicle crash with three children in her vehicle in Brentwood this morning.
 
Barbara Kalinowski, 44, was driving her 2014 Chevy Equinox northbound on Washington Avenue and Express Drive South, when she struck the rear of a 2014 Honda sedan at 11:55 a.m. Kalinowski’s eight-year-old and ten-year-old daughters, and the daughter’s 10-year-old friend were passengers in the Chevrolet. Kalinowski and the children were not injured. The 47-year-old male driver of the Honda was not injured.
 
Kalinowski was arrested by Third Precinct patrol officers and charged with Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated with a Child 15 Years Old or Younger (Leandra’s Law), Driving While Intoxicated and three counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Child.
 
Kalinowski’s daughters were released to the custody of their father and the children’s friend was released to the custody of her parents. Suffolk County Child Protective Services was notified.
 
Kalinowski, of Kellum Street, West Babylon, will be held at the Fourth Precinct and is scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on February 16.
 
A criminal charge is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
