AIR QUALITY ALERT IN EFFECT FROM 11 AM TO 11 PM EDT THURSDAY The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation has issued an Air Quality Health Advisory for the following counties... Richmond...Kings...Queens...New York...Bronx... Westchester...Rockland...Nassau...Suffolk. from 11 AM to 11 PM EDT Thursday. Air quality levels in outdoor air are predicted to be greater than an Air Quality Index value of 100 for the pollutant of Ground Level Ozone . The Air Quality Index...or AQI...was created as an easy way to correlate levels of different pollutants to one scale. The higher the AQI value...the greater the health concern. When pollution levels are elevated...the New York State Department of Health recommends that individuals consider limiting strenuous outdoor physical activity to reduce the risk of adverse health effects. People who may be especially sensitive to the effects of elevated levels of pollutants include the very young...and those with preexisting respiratory problems such as asthma or heart disease. Those with symptoms should consider consulting their personal physician. A toll free air quality hotline has been established so New York residents can stay informed on the air quality situation. Pedestrian Killed in Ronkonkoma Hit-and-Run Crash, Suffolk Police Report

Officials: Christopher Grassia, 46, was struck and killed by a vehicle on Rosevale Avenue.

SCPD are investigating a hit-and-run that killed a Ronkonkoma pedestrian.

Ronkonkoma, NY - February 15, 2019 - Suffolk County Police Major Case Unit detectives are investigating a hit-and-run crash that killed a pedestrian in Ronkonkoma.
Christopher Grassia was struck by a vehicle traveling northbound on Rosevale Ave., south of Richmond Blvd., and a passerby discovered the victim and called 911 at approximately 12:20 a.m. Police believe the vehicle was a blue Dodge Ram pickup truck with front end damage as a result of the crash and that the incident may have occurred between 7:20 p.m. on February 14 and 12:20 a.m. today.
Grassia, 46, of Ronkonkoma, was pronounced dead at the scene by a physician assistant from the Office of the Suffolk County Medical Examiner. The investigation is continuing. Detectives are asking anyone with information on this crash to call the Major Case Unit at 631-852-6555 or anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS.
