Suffolk County Police on Friday, February 13 arrested two men for utilizing a fraudulent sweepstakes prize to scam an elderly man.
A 92-year-old Central Islip man received a call in December 2025 stating he had won $18 million in the Publisher’s Clearing House sweepstakes. The victim was told that to receive the money, he had to fill out paperwork and pay taxes and fees. During subsequent phone calls, the victim was told to write personal checks, withdraw cash and withdraw funds in the form of a cashier’s check from his bank account. The initial loss was estimated to be in excess of $250,000.
Following an investigation, with assistance from the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office, and the NYPD Financial Crimes Task Force, Suffolk County Police Financial Crimes Unit detectives identified Oral Durloo and Brandon Nairne as suspects.
Durloo, 31, of Brooklyn, and Nairne, 31, of Queens, were arrested today and charged with Grand Larceny 2nd Degree. They are being held overnight at the Third Precinct in Bay Shore and scheduled for arraignment at First District Court in Central Islip on February 14.
Anyone who believes they may be a victim of Durloo and Nairne are asked to contact police.
A criminal charge is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
