Bellport Man Arrested After Allegedly Fatally Striking Pedestrian While High on Drugs

Suffolk County Police today arrested a Bellport man for driving while ability impaired by drugs after he was involved in a motor vehicle crash that killed a pedestrian in Bay Shore early on Friday, February 13.
 
Andrew Holmes Garriques was driving a 2008 Mercedes C350 when he struck a male pedestrian who was walking on the eastbound Sunrise Highway Service Road, near the Brentwood Road overpass, at 5:18 a.m.
 
The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene. His name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
 
Holmes Garriques, 27, who was not injured, was charged with Driving While Ability Impaired by Drugs. He will be held overnight at the Third Precinct and arraigned on February 14 at First District Court in Central Islip.
 
An adult female passenger in the Mercedes was not injured.
