Brookhaven Town Honors April Francis-Taylor at 32nd Annual Black History Month Celebration

The Town of Brookhaven's Black History Commission recently hosted the 32nd Annual Black History Month Celebration at Brookhaven Town Hall. 
 
The program included the presentation of Academic Achievement Awards to 94 high school seniors from 15 schools who achieved a cumulative grade point average of 90 or higher. 
 
The event’s honoree and keynote speaker was April Francis-Taylor, the Director of Diversity, Equity and Inclusivity at Eastern Suffolk BOCES. Ms. Francis-Taylor is an advocate for equitable systems and a regional education leader with 20 years of experience. 
 
Black History Commission Chairwoman, Corrinne Graham, welcomed the guests in the Town Hall auditorium and handled the introductions throughout the evening which included a musical performance of Al Green’s “Let’s Stay Together” by sisters Amaya (trumpet) and Makayla (saxophone) Grier.
