Long Island, NY - February 13, 2019 - Recently, Assemblywoman Melissa “Missy” Miller (R, C, I – Atlantic Beach) stood with her Assembly colleagues, Angela’s House founder Bob Policastro and members of CDPAANYS to voice concerns over Gov. Cuomo’s decision to cut $75 million from the Consumer Directed Personal Assistance Program (CDPAP), a statewide Medicaid program that provides alternative ways of receiving at-home care services, allowing consumers more control over who provides their care and how it is provided.

“As the mother of two special-needs children, I know firsthand how critical the services provided by these organizations are to families,” said Miller. “I am absolutely appalled by the governor's proposal regarding the disabled population. I am trying to absorb not just his usual annual attempt at cutting funding for crucial programs, but now also this direct assault on the disabled population across New York state,”

Miller continues to be a voice for the disabled community and a strong advocate to protect their rights. In 2017, Miller was a strong advocate toward the initiative for direct-support professionals (DSP) to earn a living wage and in 2018 she supported the passage of legislation to require adult changing stations in public buildings.

“I have and always will support and fight for the disabled community and today I want to thank all of my colleagues and the Long Island CDPAANYS members who took the time to drive to Albany to fight with me,” Miller said. “This press conference was so important and it is a time for our leaders, communities and organizations to come together as one and fight against our governor’s consistent attempt to defund and disregard the needs of our state’s most vulnerable individuals,”

In an effort to address the governor about the proposed budget cuts, Miller has created a petition that can be found at the following link: CDPAP Petition. Please take the time to share how this cut will affect you and sign this petition to fight for CDPAP.
