Levittown, NY - February 12th, 2014 - Heavy, wet snow continues to fall across the PSEG Long Island service territory this morning.  As of 6:15 a.m. ET, PSEG Long Island is reporting that 66 of its approximately 1.1 million customers are currently without service.

The single outage is currently affecting 66 customers in Levittown. Crews have been dispatched and restoration is expected soon.

While snow usually isn’t an issue for utilities, the possibility of sleet, freezing rain and gusting winds can increase the likelihood of downed wires and resulting power outages. Vehicles striking utility poles can also cause wires to come down.

Accumulation of ice and heavy snow may weigh down power lines and as a result cause power lines to come down. PSEG Long Island urges its customers to be cautious if they see downed lines. Downed wires may appear dead but should always be considered “live.” Do not approach or drive over a downed line and do not touch anything that it might be in contact with.

We continue to encourage customers to report downed wires or power outages to. Customers with a handheld device can also report power outages by texting “OUT” to PSEGLI (773454). Outages can also be reported by calling PSEG Long Island’s Outage Hotline at 1-800-490-0075.

The PSEG Long Island Twitter page will keep the public informed about our restoration progress. Customers are encouraged to sign up for updates and additional information.
