A tragic multi-home fire in Bellmore on the morning of Wednesday, February 11, has claimed the life of one victim and injured three others, according to Fire Department officials.
Two homes off Chapman Avenue were completely destroyed and a third damaged by the heavy blaze - which officials say started at approximately 4:30 a.m. - and efforts to combat it were briefly hampered by a fire hydrant that was overed with snow and ice that needed to be cleared off.
The three injured individuals were treated for smoke inhalation, reports say; two Nassau County Police officers also suffered the same issue when attempting to enter the homes. Other residents managed to successfully escape their residences.
The cause of the fire is currently not known.
