Congressman Suozzi Says Long Island National Cemetery Fence Must Be Fixed

Written by Long Island News & PR  |  09. February 2018

Huntington, NY - February 9, 2018 - On Saturday February 10th, Congressman Tom Suozzi (D – Long Island, Queens) will visit Long Island National Cemetery in Farmingdale to follow up on concerns regarding a section of fencing that has been broken for years.

The condition and appearance of the fence was brought to Rep. Suozzi’s attention by Dennis Chaleff, a constituent. The fence, which is on the outside perimeter of the cemetery, has been hit by passing cars on several occasions and has been repaired with chain-link patches. Made of wrought-iron 50 years ago, the fence is considered historic. Repairs must preserve the historical integrity of the fencing. No firm date has been given as to when these repairs will be scheduled. Suozzi wants the repairs completed as soon as possible.

“Our number one priority should be to take care of the men and women who served our country and we should continue to honor their memory by not allowing this facility to fall into a state of disrepair,” said Suozzi.

Since 1937, Long Island National Cemetery has been the final resting place for more than 350,000 veterans and their loved ones.
