Transit Delays and Cancellations Announced as Blizzard Conditions Persist

Written by Christian Abbatecola  |  09. February 2017

A Blizzard Warning for Long Island and surrounding areas remains in effect through 6 PM as strong winds persist and snow continues to fall across the region. Early predictions of 10-16” of accumulation with higher local amounts possible appear to have been largely accurate, with some towns already reporting just under 10” of snow well before the storm has stopped.

The snow is expected to taper off in Nassau County toward the middle of the afternoon and around 6 PM on the East End. Winds of 25-35 mph with gusts up to 50 mph will continue to make travel hazardous.

The MTA is reporting delays on all LIRR lines, and NICE has announced that it will suspend all bus service in Nassau County as of 6 PM tonight with delays expected throughout the day prior. Suffolk Transit has cancelled all bus service for Thursday, but expects to resume normal service on Friday, February 10th. NICE has also announced its hope to resume regular service overnight.

The strong storm also caused schools across the Island to close for the day.
