North Babylon, NY - February 9th, 2016 - Suffolk County Police today arrested a North Babylon man who broke into numerous cars in North Babylon and stole victims’ wallets, credit cards, computers and electronic devices.

First Precinct Officer Timothy Cohen responded to a 911 call during which a caller reported a suspicious man trying to open doors of parked vehicles on Central Avenue in North Babylon at approximately 3:45 a.m.

Officer Cohen searched the neighborhood and located Michael McFarland inside a BMW parked in the driveway of a residence on Cherubina Lane in North Babylon. McFarland was in possession of a backpack that contained stolen wallets, credit cards, computers and GPS devices.

McFarland, 22, of Bluebell Lane, North Babylon, was charged with four counts of Grand Larceny, two counts of Criminal Possession of Stolen Property and Unlawful Possession of Marijuana. McFarland committed the larcenies from vehicles parked in front of residences on Central Avenue, Ventura Drive and Cherubina Lane in North Babylon.

There was no damage to any of the vehicles. Detectives remind residents to avoid leaving valuable items in their vehicles and to lock all car doors.

The investigation is continuing. Detectives ask anyone with information regarding these incidents to call the First Squad at 631-854-8152 or anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS. All calls will remain confidential.

McFarland will be held overnight at the First Precinct and is scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on February 8, 2016.
