Suffolk PD: Man Arrested for Burglarizing Copiague Business in August 2017
Copiague, NY - February 7, 2018 - Suffolk County Police arrested a man on Tuesday, February 6 for burglarizing a Copiague business in August of 2017.
A man destroyed a rooftop chimney to gain entry to Amvets Thrift Store, located at 1179 Sunrise Highway, at approximately 4:15 a.m. on August 9, 2017. The man entered through the rooftop chimney vent, tied a rubber hose to piping on the roof and climbed down into the store. The suspect was eventually startled by the alarm. He threw a ceramic container through the front glass door, breaking it and fled the scene.
Following an investigation by First Squad detectives, the Amityville Police Department and multiple Crime Stoppers tips, Tyler Heller, 27, of Amityville, was arrested after he turned himself in at the First Precinct, located at 555 Route 109, West Babylon, at approximately 4:50 p.m. Heller was charged with Burglary 3rd Degree, and two counts of Criminal Mischief 3rd Degree.
He will be held overnight at the First Precinct in West Babylon, and scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on February 7, 2018.
