Huntington, NY - February 6, 2019 - Congressman Tom Suozzi (D – Long Island, Queens) has invited air traffic controller Kevin Maney, of Greenlawn, NY, to be his guest at this evening’s State of the Union Address. Maney has worked for the FAA for 33 years and is the president at the National Air Traffic Controllers Association for NY TRACON, also known as N90, in Westbury. He was one of 265 air traffic controllers and related staff at NY TRACON that were impacted by the longest government shutdown in our history.
“Kevin and his fellow air traffic controllers are dedicated, hardworking professionals. Their already stressful work was made even more stressful by the 35-day shutdown. The safety of everyone in our metropolitan area depends on these well-trained and high-skilled workers. Expecting them to work without pay is neither acceptable nor safe. Our federal workers and their families should not be held hostage like this over a political argument,” said Suozzi.
NY TRACON is the busiest such facility in the country. The air traffic controllers and staff are responsible for guiding and monitoring air traffic in and out of JFK, LaGuardia, Newark, and other regional airports.
