Long Island, NY - February 2, 2017 - Today, Senator John E. Brooks (SD-8) recognized February as Black History Month and urged Long Island residents to celebrate the many accomplishments African Americans have made to Long Island, New York and the United States.

“Black History Month is an opportunity to celebrate the important achievements and contributions African Americans have made to our community such as to education, literature, the arts, athletics, science, and more. As we celebrate the incredible impacts of our African American community, let us be reminded of our nation's great diversity, persistence and resilience. As a fan of golf, I personally want to recognize the work of the first African American professional golfer, Charles Luther Sifford," said Senator Brooks.
