The First Squad reports the arrest of a Uniondale man for an incident that occurred on Wednesday, February 4, 2026 at 3:45 p.m. in Uniondale.
According to detectives, first precinct officers responded to a Uniondale residence for a domestic disturbance. Upon arrival, it was determined that the defendant, Jahshua Sherwood, 24, of 728 Tower Court, was involved in a disturbance with a 23-year-old female victim.
The argument escalated into a physical altercation resulting in the defendant pinning down the victim before forcibly grabbing her around the neck and applying pressure and obstructing her breathing. The victim in fear for her life exited the residence and called 911.
The defendant was located and while police attempted to place him into custody, he became violent and combative while reaching for an Officers firearm. Two officers and a police medic sustained injuries during the course of the arrest. The injured officers and police medic were transported to a local area hospital for treatment of their injuries. The victim was also transported to a nearby hospital for evaluation and treatment.
Defendant Jahshua Sherwood is charged with Assault 2nd Degree, Two counts of Harassment 2nd Degree, Robbery 3rd Degree, Criminal Obstruction of Breathing and Unlawful Imprisonment. He will be arraigned on Thursday, February 5, 2026 at First District Court, 99 Main Street Hempstead.
