February 5, 2015 2015; Massapequa, NY - At a recent Nassau Suffolk Water Commissioners’ Association (NSWCA) meeting sponsored by the Plainview Water District, the Association elected a new board for the 2015 term, which runs through December 31, 2015.

The newly elected 2015 board includes: President Thomas P. Hand of Massapequa Water District, who succeeds outgoing President Howard Abbondondelo of the Albertson Water District; 1st Vice President Raymond J. Averna of Massapequa Water District; 2nd Vice President Andrew N. Bader of Plainview Water District; Secretary Vincent Abbatiello of Westbury Water District; and Treasurer and past NSWCA President Karl M. Schweitzer of Hicksville Water District.

“On Long Island, ensuring the purity and supply of our water and protecting our sole source aquifer requires continuing education,” President Hand commented. “The NSWCA will continue to expand our Educational Series and related seminars throughout 2015.  This approach enables us to communicate the most up to date scientific and environmental information directly from the experts to member Commissioners in a Q&A scenario with immediate response.”

Commissioner Averna added, “While our prime focus is always on Long Island’s water issues, the educational benefits often encompass a broader scale.  This is particularly true with conservation issues and techniques.”

Organized and chartered in 1981, the Nassau Suffolk Water Commissioners’ Association (NSWCA) is comprised of water commissioners from 21 Nassau County and Suffolk County water districts.  The NSWCA is dedicated to promoting environmental excellence and best practices as well as maintaining the highest standards of water quality and supply. The NSWCA sponsors regular educational meetings on topics that include the environment, security, economics, rules and regulations, among other related issues.
