On Wednesday afternoon, a man approached two teenage girls walking on Herbert Avenue in Lindenhurst and identified himself as a police officer, according to the Suffolk County Police Department. The man, who was driving a white SUV, asked the girls what they were doing. They girls, 14 and 16-years-old, told the man who they thought was a police officer that they were going to the library.

The man asked the girls to get in his vehicle to give them a ride. When they arrived at the library the man told the older girl to leave the vehicle so he could talk to the 14-year-old.

According to a police report, the man drove off with the younger girl. He parked the vehicle at a nearby park and began to touch the girl. She was able to fight him off and flee the vehicle.

The young girl ran to a nearby home for help and the homeowner called 911.
