NCPD: Freeport Man Arrested for Allegedly Driving Drunk with 5 Year-Old in Passenger Seat

Lindenhurst, NY - February 4, 2019 - The Public Information Office reports the Arrest of a Freeport man for Driving While Intoxicated-Leandra’s Law that occurred on Sunday, February 3, 2019 at 4:50 a.m. in Uniondale.
 
According to police, officers observed defendant Darwin Flores-Castillo, 28, fail to signal before making a turn onto Mathilda Pl. from Uniondale Ave. Upon stopping the vehicle, the officer smelled a strong odor of alcohol on the defendant’s breath and observed that he had glassy eyes and slurred speech. At this time, the defendant was placed under arrest.
 
Further investigation discovered that the defendant’s nephew, 5, was in the rear left passenger seat. He was released to his mother at the scene.
 
Darwin Flores-Castillo is charged with Endangering the Welfare of a Child, Aggravated DWI (Child under 16) Under the Leandra Law, Driving While Intoxicated and multiple VTL violations. He will be arraigned on Monday, February 04, 2019 at First District Court, Hempstead.
 
A criminal charge is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
