SCPD Crime Alert: Man Wanted for Identity Theft in Plainview

Plainview, NY - February 3rd, 2015 - Suffolk County Crime Stoppers and Suffolk County Police Identity Theft Unit detectives are seeking the public’s assistance in identifying and locating the man who opened up a bank account using a Stony Brook man’s identity.
 
On December 11, 2014 a suspect opened a bank account in Plainview using the victim’s personal information. The suspect then deposited a counterfeit check made payable to the victim and had a debit card issued by the bank. The suspect then made three withdrawals using the ATM card in Patchogue and Manhattan.
 
The suspect is described as a white male, heavyset, with facial hair. He was wearing a dark-colored knit hat, a blue Nike jacket with a Stony Brook University emblem. 
 
Suffolk County Crime Stoppers offers a cash reward of up to $5,000 for information that leads to an arrest. Anyone with information about this crime is asked to call anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS. All calls will be kept confidential.
