Across the Island, the residual effects of Monday's snow storm can still be felt - roadways are slick, cars are caked with snow, and plows and salt trucks can still be seen making their rounds. By the time the lion's share of the cleanup has been completed, Long Island will need to brace yet again for snow - Long Island can look forward to another three to five inches overnight.

Currently, the National Weather Service has a Special Weather Statement and a Hazardous Weather Outlook in effect, but at midnight, a Winter Storm Warning goes into effect, and will be active until 6 PM Wednesday evening. This Warning was recently upgraded from an Advisory, as the forecast has gotten more serious. In addition to the 3-5 inches of snow, the NWS is expecting this latest winter storm to bring us about 1/4 inch of ice as well - making traveling even more dangerous, as the roadways are already wet and icy.

The NWS cautions to only travel if there is an emergency because of the anticipated poor road conditions. They advise that anyone that must travel keep a extra water, food, and a flashlight on hand in their vehicle.
