On January 28, employees of Brookhaven Science Associates (BSA), who work at Brookhaven National Laboratory (BNL), delivered approximately 280 winter coats, along with scarves, hats and gloves, to Brookhaven Town Hall in support of the Brookhaven Youth Bureau’s INTERFACE Winter Coat Drive. BNL Manager of Environmental and Community Engagement Amy Engel and staff member William McPherson were welcomed by Councilman Neil Manzella, Town Clerk Kevin LaValle, INTERFACE Coordinator Josephine Lunde and Councilman Michael Loguercio, who thanked them for their generosity.

“This delivery by Brookhaven Science Associates’ employees will help the Youth Bureau fulfill its mission of providing the gift of warmth to residents throughout Brookhaven Town,” said Brookhaven Town Supervisor Daniel J. Panico. “Their initiative and compassion speak volumes about their commitment to helping neighbors in need.”

On January 29, members of Farmingdale State College’s Kappa Sigma Fraternity delivered approximately 30 winter coats they collected for the INTERFACE Winter Coat Drive. The fraternity also raised funds to further support children and families in need throughout the Town.

The effort was inspired by fraternity alumnus Nicholas Oliveri, whose family hosts an annual holiday light display at their home. This year, Mr. Oliveri expanded the tradition by collecting winter coats over a two-day period while offering candy canes and hot chocolate to visitors. The fraternity promoted the event on its social media platforms, and members attended dressed in festive holiday costumes while assisting with donations.

Following the collection, Mr. Oliveri coordinated with Councilman Neil Foley’s office to deliver the coats to Brookhaven Town Hall. Councilman Neil Foley welcomed Mr. Oliveri and seven fraternity members, thanked them for their service, and commended their dedication to community.

“These young men exemplify what it means to give back,” said Councilman Foley. “The INTERFACE Program helps thousands of Brookhaven residents each year, and it’s success depends on the generosity of individuals and organizations like this.”
