Cycle for Survival Returns to Long Island to Fund Rare Cancer Research

Written by Long Island News & PR  |  02. February 2015

Roslyn, NY - February 2, 2015 - Cycle for Survival, the national movement to beat rare cancers, is returning to Long Island on Feb. 8 for the fifth consecutive year for its annual indoor team cycling event at Equinox Roslyn. 100 percent of every dollar raised by Cycle for Survival funds rare cancer research and clinical trials led by Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, the nation’s No. 1 cancer care hospital*, which owns and operates Cycle for Survival.

Instructors from Equinox, Cycle for Survival’s founding partner, will lead more than 800 participants in rides at these all-day, family friendly events, including rare cancer doctors and researchers, patients, survivors and supporters from Long Island. In 2015, more than 20,000 riders in 13 cities across the country will participate in Cycle for Survival.

About half of all Americans with cancer face the challenge of fighting a rare form of the disease, which includes thyroid, brain, ovarian, pancreatic, all pediatric cancers, and many others. Rare cancer research is typically underfunded—often leaving patients with few or no proven treatment plans. Cycle for Survival is helping to fill this funding gap by supporting cutting-edge research. Every dollar raised will be allocated within six months. Since 2007, Cycle for Survival has raised over $58 million for the cause.
