The Kappa Sigma Fraternity at Adelphi University Hosts Super Hungerfest to Support Island Harvest

Written by Kali Chan  |  01. February 2018

Garden City, NY - February 1, 2018 - While Super Bowl weekend is synonymous with mass consumption, the brothers of the Kappa Sigma Fraternity at Adelphi University are forgoing food for a good cause.

For the 12th year in a row, the fraternity will fast, only drinking water, for 24 hours leading up to the Super Bowl to raise money to support Island Harvest. Last year, Super Hungerfest raised $2,200 and 1,600 pounds of food while bringing awareness to the current issue of hunger in Long Island.

By hosting on-campus events and conducting a door-to-door non-perishable food drive this weekend in the Town of Hempstead, the fraternity is enlisting support from local supermarkets and other businesses, along with members of the community. They also will be standing in front of supermarkets to collect nonperishable food and monetary donations.

Kappa Sigma will host its Kickoff Party on February 3 from 6--9 p.m. in the Campbell Lounge in the Center for Recreation and Sport on Adelphi’s campus. Attendees are asked to bring a nonperishable food donation. Donations also will be accepted at https://www.gofundme.com/super-hungerfest-2018.
