A winter storm with near-blizzard like conditions is blowing across Long Island right now that dumped up to 7 inches of snow across the region overnight with predicted accumulations upwards of 24 inches in some parts of the East End.

 

Overnight the National Weather Service reported an increase in snowfall for both Nassau and Suffolk counties based on latest radar trends and snow reports across the area. This morning snow was falling at a rate of 1-3 inches per hour with near blizzard-like conditions at times.

 

Visibility is poor and travel is not advised.

 

Temperatures are dropping with a reported 21 degrees in Farmingdale this morning. The temperature is expected to fall to 17 degrees by 4pm. Wind chill makes it feel like somewhere between -5 and 5 degrees. Winds are around 34 mph, with gusts as high as 48 mph, according to reports.

 

Additional snow accumulation of 8 to 12 inches is possible today. Snow is expected to finally end around 8pm.
