Elmont Couple Found Dead After Murder-Suicide

Written by Eric Anderson  |  30. January 2013

According to police, 58-year-old Audley Dennis fatally shot his wife, 46-year-old Karen Rodgers-Dennis, before shooting himself on Monday night in their home in Elmont.

Sources say that the couple’s teenage son raised concern after not being able to enter the house. The home was apparently bolted from the inside, so he went to a neighbor’s house to call the police. After arriving, authorities then forced their way into the home, where they found the couple.

Although police did not initially identify who the shooter was during the incident, it is now believed that Audley was the one who committed the crime. Karen, an attorney, was found with several gunshot wounds to her torso, while Audley died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the chest.

“They had their altercations. They would argue and yell, have outbursts,” stated one friend of the family to the New York Post.

Another family friend stated they had seen the couple just last week but did not notice anything unusual about their behavior.

Neighbors say the couple had been frequently arguing recently. Many close friends and family members believe it was due to Karen’s recent weight loss and increased social life. Police had been to the house on domestic disturbance calls over the years, but the most recent call was about five years ago.

Audley and Karen had been married for over 20 years and leave behind three children; 19-year-old Aaron and 21-year-old Maya both attend college while 16-year-old Aidan attends Elmont High School.
