The fatal car crash that happened around 5:45 a.m. on Sunday on the Southern State Parkway, involving a 2008 Nissan Maxima, has left two passengers dead and the driver of the vehicle and two other passengers critically injured.

The incident occurred on the westbound lanes of the Southern State Parkway near North Merrick, along a strip that has been nicknamed “Bloody Alley.” The stretch between Exit 17 and Exit 30 of the parkway has had many deadly car accidents before.

Kervens Boutin, 30, was the driver behind the wheel of the Nissan Maxima. His passengers included Bryan Rivas, 20, and Blossum Castro, 22, who died at the scene. Marlo Cabrera, 19, and Antonio Rivas, 22, were two other passengers in the car. The five were coming from a birthday party, according to police.

Police believe Boutin was speeding and ran off the road. The vehicle crashed into a tree near Exit 23. The vehicles wrapped around the tree and some individuals were ejected from it. Unfortunately, multiple limbs were severed and paramedics had to search for them nearby the wooded area.

Both Boutin and Cabrera were transported to Nassau University Medical Center and Rivas was transported to Winthrop Hospital.

This most recent incident left the westbound lanes on the Southern State Parkway near North Merrick to close for several hours. All lanes were reopened by 1 p.m.

Nearly 40 people have been killed in crashes in the past six years along this stretch of the parkway. In 2012, at least seven people were killed, according to reporting from Moriches Daily.
