Commack Man Arrested After Serious Car Accident in Old Westbury

Old Westbury, NY - January 26th, 2015 - The Homicide Squad reports the details of a Serious Vehicular Accident at 4:10am on Sunday, January 25, 2015 in Old Westbury.
 
According to Detectives, defendant Steven M. Bevilacqua, 29, of Sheldon Place, Commack, was driving a 2003 GMC Envoy travelling eastbound on the Long Island Expressway.  As the defendant approached the overpass for Post Road he crossed over four lanes of traffic, struck the guard rail and went down the embankment causing the vehicle to overturn. Police and Fire Services arrived to find two occupants still inside the vehicle.
 
The defendant suffered head and lower abdominal injuries and was transported to the Nassau University Medical Center for treatment.  The female passenger, 28, suffered severe head and internal injuries that are considered life threatening and was transported to Winthrop Hospital for treatment.  The vehicle was impounded for brake and safety tests.
 
Defendant Steven M. Bevilacqua is charged with Assault 3rd Degree and Driving with Ability Impaired by Alcohol.  He will be arraigned when medically practical.
