Bethpage Man Arrested for Attempting to Rob Local Gas Station

Bethpage, NY - January 24th, 2015 - Second Squad detectives report the details of an arrest for an attempted robbery that occurred in Bethpage on Friday, 01/23/15 at 4:48 P.M.
 
According to detectives, Joseph Cirella, 49, of Hicksville Rd., Bethpage, entered the BP Gas Station located at 4125 Hempstead Tpke., approached the clerk and handed him a note demanding cash. The defendant then gestured he had a weapon in his pants pocket and verbally demanded cash. The victim did not comply and called the police. The defendant fled the scene in his auto.

Second Precinct police officers located the defendant, a short time later, in his vehicle parked in the driveway of his home, where he was placed under arrest.  No weapons were recovered. There was one additional employee in the gas station at the time of the robbery.
 
No injuries were reported.
 
Cirella is being charged with Attempted Robbery 3rd Degree and will be arraigned on Saturday, 01/24/15 in First District Court, Hempstead.
