Albany, NY - January 23, 2017 - Today, Senator Kaminsky helped pass legislation that will allow Nassau County to provide tax relief to thousands of seniors. The bill, S3142, will allow the county legislature to reinstate a property tax abatement for seniors that expired last year.

“Senior homeowners on Long Island already pay exorbitant property taxes. Allowing this abatement to expire unfairly adds to their burden,” said Senator Todd Kaminsky. “We owe it to our seniors to continue fighting for their rights in the Senate.”

Nassau County passed legislation in 2002 that increased property taxes by almost 20%, but included an abatement for seniors 65+ with incomes less than $86,000. The legislation recently expired, and over 39,000 seniors will be affected.

Senator Kaminsky has spent his career fighting to limit the tax burdens of Long Islanders. He has voted against raising taxes over 175 times, passed the largest middle-class state income tax cuts in 70 years and has previously voted to extend the property tax cap.
