Levittown Couple Arrested for String of Local Muggings

Syosset, NY - January 23rd, 2015 - The Second Squad reports the arrest of two individuals on Friday January 23, 2015 at 2:00am in Syosset.

According to Detectives, Charles H. Smith, 25, and Sophia Karger, 21, both of Eden Lane Levittown did surrender themselves to the Second Squad located at 7700 Jericho Turnpike and were arrested without incident.  The two defendants acting in concert did on four separate occasions approach the victims in the parking lot, grab their pocketbooks and leave the scene in a black colored 2004 BMW.  

January 19, 2015 at 5:30pm a 76 year old female victim was approached at Target 3850 Hempstead Turnpike Levittown.

January 19, 2015 at 8:00pm a 38 year old female victim was approached at Walmart 3335 Hempstead Turnpike Levittown.

January 20, 2015 at 7:30pm an 80 year old female victim was approached at BJ’s 3635 Hempstead Turnpike Levittown.  A witness observed the auto and the NY registration information was supplied to Police.

January 21, 2015 at 8:15pm a 44 year old female was approached at Target at the Broadway Mall in Hicksville. The victim resisted and grabbed her pocketbook back causing a struggle to ensue. The victim fell to the ground but was able to retain her belongings.

Defendants Smith and Karger are both charged with one count of Robbery 3rd Degree and three counts of Grand Larceny 4th Degree.  They will be arraigned in First District Court 99 Main Street Hempstead.
