SCPD: Woman Arrested for DWI after Injuring Police Officer in Mount Sinai Crash

Mount Sinai, NY - January 22, 2017 - Suffolk County Police arrested a woman for driving while intoxicated after a motor vehicle crash that injured a police officer and the female driver in Mount Sinai on Friday, January 19.
 
Elvia Turcios was driving a 2003 Nissan Altima westbound on Route 25A, near Mt. Sinai Ave. at approximately 11:30 p.m. when her vehicle struck an occupied Suffolk County Police Department patrol car parked on the shoulder of the road with the emergency lights on during a traffic stop. The Altima then struck a 2004 Jeep Cherokee traveling eastbound, and the Altima overturned. The vehicle originally pulled over in the traffic stop was not involved in the crash.
 
The Sixth Precinct officer in the vehicle and Turcios were transported to Stony Brook University Hospital for treatment of minor injuries.
 
Turcios, 30, of Port Jefferson, was charged with Driving While Intoxicated and Failure to Yield to an Emergency Vehicle and issued additional summonses. She was held at the Sixth Precinct and is scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on January 20.  
 
A criminal charge is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
