Man Arrested for Running Illegal Gambling Club in Deli

Suffolk County Police arrested a man for running an illegal gambling club in a deli in Huntington after a State Liquor Authority (SLA) inspection last night.

Huntington Station, NY - January 21, 2017 - Suffolk County Police arrested a man for running an illegal gambling club in a deli in Huntington after a State Liquor Authority (SLA) inspection last night.

In response to community complaints, Suffolk County Police Second Precinct Crime Section officers in conjunction with the Huntington Town Code Enforcement conducted an SLA check at Chiquito Deli, located at 1962 New York Avenue at approximately 10:15 p.m.

A gambling club in the basement was discovered with approximately 30 people inside. Officers confiscated dice tables, dice, joker poker machines, cash and drugs.

The manager of the deli, Juan Antonio Susana Corona, 45, of Huntington Station, was arrested and charged with Criminal Nuisance 2nd Degree, Promoting Gambling 2nd Degree, and Possession of a Gambling Device. He was also charged under the Alcohol Beverage Control Law (ABC Law) with Consumption on a Licensed Premise, Gambling, and the Sale of Alcohol without the Appropriate License. All charges are misdemeanors.  

The Huntington Town Code Enforcement cited Corona for Fire Code violations and Improper Use under the Town Building Code.

Multiple subjects were also charged with Open Alcohol under the Huntington Town Code.

Corona is scheduled to be arraigned on March 23.

A criminal charge is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
