Caumsett State Historic Park Preserve: Upcoming Events

Huntington, NY - January 22, 2016 - Caumsett State Historic Park in Lloyd’s Neck, Huntington will be offering the following interpretative programs during the 2016 winter season. These programs are geared for the average adult. There will be a fee of $4.00 per adult, $3.00 per child and children under the age of 3 are free. An $8.00 parking fee will be collected during the fee collection season.  Advance reservations are required beginning on the dates indicated in the parenthesis. To register, please call (631) 423 – 1770 between 8:00 am – 4:30 pm.  If you are unable to keep your reservation, please call and cancel so others may have the opportunity to attend. Please be prompt. If others are waiting, your place may be given to them if you have not arrived when the program starts. Outdoor programs will take place rain or shine, so please dress appropriately.

Maple Sugaring:  (Adult Program)

Saturday                    January 30 (1/16)                 12:30 - 2:15 pm

Saturday                    February 13 (1/30)               10:30 am - 12:15 pm

This hands-on program, geared for the average adult, will teach you how to identify and tap a maple tree so you can make real maple syrup at home.  It’s a short walk.

Just a Hike On the Roads:  (Adult Program)

Sunday                      February 7 (1/24)                  12:30 – 2:15 pm approx.

Enjoy a moderately paced, 4 mile hike on the road for relaxing and socializing.

Birding Basics For Beginners:  (Adult Program)

Sunday                      February 21 (2/7)                  2:30 – 4:15 pm approx.

This hands-on program will introduce adults to birds & adaptations on a 1 mile walk.  Bring binoculars if you have them.

History of Caumsett:  (Adult Program)

Saturday                    February 27 (2/13)               12:30 – 2:30 pm approx.

On this hilly, moderately long walk (approx. 2 miles), we will study the park’s social, economic, architectural, and political history.

Just a Hike in the Center Section:  (Adult Program)

Sunday                      March 6 (2/21)                       12:30 – 2:30 pm approx.

Take a moderately paced five mile hike to relax and socialize.

Winter Water Walk:  (Adult Program)

Saturday                    March 12 (2/27)                    9:30 am – 12:45 pm

Observe winter waterfowl & explore the beach while exercising and socializing.  We will cover approximately 5 miles.  Please bring binoculars.

Introduction to Wilderness Survival:  (Adult)

Sunday                      March 20 (3/6)                       10:45 am – 1:00 pm approx.

In this hands-on program, discover how to find food, start a fire and build a shelter.

Just a Hike –Eastern Section:  (Adult)

Sunday                      March 27 (3/13)                    9:45 am – 12:45 pm approx.

Enjoy a moderately paced, 6 mile hike for relaxing & socializing.
