NWS Issues Blizzard Watch for Long Island as Winter Storm Jonas Approaches

Written by Cait Russell  |  21. January 2016

The National Weather Service has issued a Blizzard Watch for Long Island, that will go into effect Saturday Morning, and stay in effect until Sunday Afternoon. The Watch also effects New York City, and parts of North East New Jersey.

Long Island can expect 8 - 12 inches of snow, winds of 25 - 35 MPH, with gusts of up to 50 MPH, and temperatures in the low 30s.

The NWS warns that traveling during this time will be very dangerous, as visibility will be limited - heavy snowfall and high winds will likely create whiteout condition. The NWS also warns that secondary roads impassable - the strong winds could potentially down power lines, and tree branches.
