The Fifth Squad reports the arrest of an undomiciled man for an Assault that occurred on Tuesday, January 20, 2026 at 12:30 a.m. in Elmont.
 
According to detectives, officers responded to a Holland Avenue residence for a larceny in progress. Upon police arrival, the rear passenger window of a 2023 Chevrolet was broken and there was an unknown male in the backseat.
 
During the investigation, two officers sustained injuries during the course of the arrest as the defendant, Maynor Ponce, 41, was violent and combative while resisting arrest. Subsequent to the investigation the defendant was found to be in possession of a substance believed to be crack cocaine.
 
Defendant Ponce is charged with two counts of Assault 2nd Degree, Criminal Mischief 3rd Degree, Petit Larceny, Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 7th Degree, Resisting Arrest, Obstructing Governmental Administration and an active Nassau County Warrant. He will be arraigned on Tuesday, January 20, 2026 at First District Court, 99 Main Street, Hempstead.
