Stony Brook, NY - January 19, 2017 - Off Book/Out of Bounds brings iconic show tunes, electrified, to Staller Center’s Recital Hall on Sunday, February 19 at 7:00 pm. The four member rock band, the Brooklyn Rundfunk Orkestrata (BRO), joined by three singers, riffs on 100 years worth of songs from the musical theater songbook.

The Brooklyn Rundfunk Orkestrata is led by Peter Kiesewalter. He notes,“The show is a history of music for the theater using today’s musical vocabulary (i.e. rock, jazz, funk, soul, bluegrass, etc). We’ll play Broadway hits written before 1960 but play them as though they were written today. We play "Climb Every Mountain" from The Sound of Music as if interpreted by Mary J. Blige or "Put on a Happy Face" from Bye Bye Birdie as an electrofunk tune. We will also go way back in time and play the music from the roots of American musical theater which is European opera -- Mozart and Puccini as if Queen or Led Zeppelin was playing it.”

Peter Kiesewalter has been widely acclaimed for his genre-defying work with his project the East Village Opera Company, a hit performance at Staller Center in 2011 with Parsons Dance.

BRO will be joined by singers Carolyn Leonhart, acclaimed NYC-based jazz vocalist and longtime Steely Dan band member, and from East Village Opera Company, Tyley Ross and AnnMarie Millazzo.
