NCPD Investigating Port Washington Houseboat Fire

Port Washington, NY - January 19th, 2015 - The Arson Bomb Squad reports the details of a fire that occurred at 2:00am on Monday, January 19, 2015 in Port Washington.

According to Detectives, while sleeping in their houseboat located at 12 Matinecock Avenue the male and female victim (both 64 years) were awaken by smoke and flames in the bedroom. They quickly exited the boat and called 911 for assistance. The houseboat suffered extensive damage and sunk. A second houseboat suffered extensive damage and four other boats suffered varying degrees of damage.  The victims from the first boat and two additional male victims (ages 71 and 49 yrs.) from the second boat were transported to a local hospital for treatment of smoke inhalation.

Their conditions are non-life threatening. The Port Washington Fire Department, Fire Marshall Madden, Fire Marshall Investigator Lang and Port Washington Fire Chief Waterson were among those on scene.  

The cause of the fire is undetermined at this time and the investigation will be conducted when the houseboat is raised.
