Man Arrested for Robbing Three Banks this Month

Babylon, NY - January 18th, 2014 - Suffolk County Police today arrested a man for robbing three banks this month, including one that he robbed approximately 20 minutes before he was arrested.
 
George Swanton, entered the Chase Bank, located at 31 West Main St., Babylon, at approximately 12:05 p.m. He approached a teller, stated he had a gun, and demanded cash. As the teller was preparing to give him cash, he also demanded money from a second teller, who also complied with his demands.
 
A notification was broadcast describing the suspect. First Precinct Patrol Officers Anthony Mennella and Matt Augustine located Swanton on Railroad Avenue in Babylon, and arrested him at approximately 12:25 p.m.
 
Swanton, 54, of Brentwood, was charged with two counts of Robbery 3rd Degree. He was also charged with two counts of Robbery 3rd Degree for robbing the Bank of America located at 540 Montauk Highway West Islip, on January 14, and one count of Robbery 3rd Degree for robbing the Citibank located at 710 Suffolk Ave., Brentwood on January 11.
 
Swanton is scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on January 18.
 
A criminal charge is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
