FEMA STEP Program Deadline is TODAY, Jan. 18

Written by Amy Gernon  |  18. January 2013

Today is the last day to apply for the FEMA Shelter and Temporary Essential Power (STEP) program to receive emergency residential essential and necessary repairs following Superstorm Sandy.

The program was initiated after the storm devastated the region in order to allow New Yorkers without electricity to shelter in their storm-damaged homes while permanent repairs were completed.  The STEP program is ongoing, but Jan. 18 is the last day residents of Nassau and Suffolk counties have the option to apply for the program.

Suffolk residents should call 2-1-1 to set up an appointment for an assessment of their home.  Nassau residents should call 1-888-684-4267.

After the assessment is completed, the homeowner will receive information about the scope of the work, and a contractor will be assigned to perform the repairs.  All work will be completed within 60 days of the home’s assessment.

Be sure to contact the appropriate office before the end-of-business today, Jan. 18 in order to receive assistance through this program.
