Islip Troop 207 Eagle Scout Defies Odds

Written by Long Island News & PR  |  16. January 2015

Islip, NY - January 16, 2015 - Suffolk County Legislator Tom Cilmi attended the Eagle Court of Honor for James “Jimmy” Cusick, a member of Boy Scout Troop 207, Islip.

In his thirties, Cusick has been in Boy Scouts of America Islip Troop 207 since he was old enough to be eligible. Normally, Scouts must attain the rank of Eagle before their eighteenth birthday, but BSA rules allow for exceptions under certain developmental circumstances.

“Jimmy is the quintessential Eagle,” said Legislator Tom Cilmi. “His perseverance and commitment, despite a number of significant challenges, sets an example for all of us. It would have been so easy to give up, but he stuck with it. His fellow scouts all had the same thing to say, ‘Jimmy is always there to lend a helping hand or offer advice.’ I am incredibly proud of Jim and want to thank all those who have helped him, particularly his fellow Troop 207 scouts and scoutmasters without whom this would not be possible.”
