Mastic Beach, NY - January 16, 2015 - Suffolk County Legislator Tom Cilmi recognized students from Connetquot High School’s habitat for Humanity Club for raising $4,000 to help Habitat for Humanity of Suffolk build a new home in Mastic Beach for a needy family. Students also participated in Optimum Community’s Charity Champions program which donated an additional $1,500. Optimum Community is a Cablevision initiative. The students plan to continue fundraising for this cause for the remainder of the year.

As part of the partnership between the Connetquot School District, Optimum Community and habitat for Humanity of Suffolk, the students actually participate in the building process.

“It’s exciting to see firsthand the wonderful work that these students are doing,” said Legislator Cilmi. “Their commitment and enthusiasm is clearly evident. What better gift to give a family than a home in which to live. I’d also like to thank Optimum Community for its Charity Champions program that has provided these young people with the opportunity to help others in need.”
