Cebollines (translating to scallions or chives) opened a little over a month ago in Lindenhurst mixing up the typical Mexican offerings with a touch of Salvadorian.

 

Their breakfast and lunch menu includes some standard burritos and also some of their own creations like their Cebollines Cajun Chicken served with spinach, red onions, tomatoes, rice, beans, and horseradish mayo ($10) and Cebollines Shrimp with spinach, red onions, tomatoes, rice, beans, and horseradish mayo ($11). They also have a vegetarian version ($8.99).

 

The pupusas are the Salvadorian items, which are stuffed flatbreads. Options include rebueltas, queso, loroco, and frijol (all $2.50). They also have tacos ($12.95-$15.95) and enchiladas ($18.95 and $21.95).

 

The dinner menu expands on the theme with appetizers like Cebollines Coco Shrimp, which is encrusted coconut shrimp served with their own scallions jalapeño ranch ($11.95), Crusted Calamari, lightly dusted and fried served with habanero diablo sauce ($11.95), and  Mussels Negra Modelo roasted garlic chorizo cilantro broth ($10.95).

 

Entrees include their Tortilla Crusted Salmon of baby arugula romaine, roasted tomatoes, black beans, roasted corn, queso fresco, and cranberry vinaigrette ($21.95) and a Mexicana Grilled Skirt Steak with arugula, roasted corn, roasted tomatoes, queso fresco balsamic vinaigrette ($21.95).

 

On Yelp, Margaret B. from Mahwah, NJ said the food was very flavorful.

 

“The table salsa we got at the start of our meal was probably the best salsa we've had,” she said. “Perfect amount of spicy, very flavorful. The entrees were SO GOOD. I got a quesadilla and my date got carne asada. Both of us agreed it's the best in the area. Service was friendly and attentive. Highly recommend this place!!”

 

She had one complaint: The drinks could have been a little stronger.

 

Suzanne F. of Lindenhurst had three things to say about the food: “Yummy yummy yummy.”

 

“So happy this gem opened in our neighborhood,” she wrote. “Replace the old primavera. The workers are super cool and tHey have a great menu. Food was delicious.”

 

Although she disagreed with Margaret B. on one point.

 

“Drinks were strong,” she said.
