Box Truck Driver Killed After Vehicle Leaves Roadway, Overturns, Catches on Fire

Wantagh, NY - January 14, 2017 - Seventh Squad detectives are investigating a fatal auto accident that occurred on Friday, January 13, 2017 at 7:40 pm in Wantagh.

According to detectives, the unidentified operator of a 2007 Freightliner “Box Truck”, while traveling westbound on Sunrise Highway just west of Seaford Avenue, appeared to have lost control of the truck, struck a guard rail causing it to leave the roadway and overturn into and on top off other unoccupied parked vehicles in a Wantagh Train Station commuter lot. As a result of the incident the overturned truck caught fire with the driver trapped inside.

The Wantagh Fire Department responded to the scene, extinguished the fire and the operator, who was the sole occupant of the truck, was discovered and pronounced deceased at the scene.

The identification of the driver will be confirmed pending DNA examination from the Nassau County Medical Examiner’s Office.

The investigation into this incident continues.
